  • Tales of H.P. Lovecraft: major works. H. P. Lovecraft. Audio. Often viewed as the father of the modern horror genre, Joyce Carol Oates selects his finest works including: "The Dunwich Horror," "The Colour Out of Space," and "The Call of Cthulhu." Short stories.
  • Those Across the River. Christopher Buehlman. Audio. Haunted by memories of World War I, failed academic Frank and his wife move to his family's estate in Whitbrow, Georgia. When the town decides to end a strange tradition called the Chase of Pigs, all hell breaks loose.
  • Communion: a true story. Whitley Strieber. Audio, Large Print. The author's account of a possible real encounter with extraterrestrials. Strieber believes that he and his family have had a series of personal contacts with intelligent nonhuman beings in his isolated cabin in Ulster County, New York.
  • The Shining. Stephen King. Audio, Braille. This is the first book in the Danny Torrance series. Jack and Wendy Torrance come face-to-face with terror when they become caretakers of a haunted old hotel in the snowy mountains of Colorado. Their five-year-old son Danny, who appears to have psychic powers, is the first to sense the evil in the building.
  • I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Harlan Ellison. Audio. A collection of seven stories by Harlan Ellison, first published between 1958 and 1967. Includes the titular "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" and "Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes."
  • Books of Blood. Clive Barker. Audio. Three volumes of chilling tales originally published in 1984. In "Scape-Goats" four boaters discover an uncharted island that is really a burial mound. In "Human Remains" a male prostitute confronts his doppelganger.
  • Lord of the Flies. William Golding. Audio, Braille. With horrifying implications, a group of English boys are wrecked on a desert island and have to establish their own system of government. For senior high and older readers.
  • The Collector. John Fowles. Audio. A bizarre tale of an obscure clerk, a collector of butterflies, who becomes obsessed with a pretty art student he has never met. When he earns a fortune in the football pool, he imprisons her in his remote cottage in the country and is determined to make her love him.
  • The Lottery and other Stories. Shirley Jackson. Audio, Braille. A collection of twenty-five unusual short stories by the author of "The Lottery." In the title piece, a village puts a terrifying twist on the luck of the draw. In "The Witch," a stranger on the train tells a chilling tale of murder to a small boy.
  • Intensity. Dean R. Koontz. Audio. Psychology major Chyna Shepherd avoids friendship until she meets classmate Laura Templeton.
