Growing Our Leadership for Minnesota's Workforce

4/16/2019 4:00:00 PM

One of the most important areas of focus for our work at DEED is to help Minnesota workers from all professional backgrounds find great jobs, and to help companies large and small meet their hiring needs – enabling our economy to grow and thrive.

That’s why we’ve decided to expand the leadership team within the DEED commissioner’s office by creating two Assistant Commissioner positions to lead our workforce efforts. We’ve just posted these two unclassified jobs – one is as an Assistant Commissioner for Workforce Services (Keyword 31802) and one is as an Assistant Commissioner of Workforce Development (Keyword 31799). You can find out more about each of these senior leadership roles by going to the Minnesota Careers site and searching by the Keyword provided.

Previously, just one Deputy Commissioner was devoted to oversee the entirety of DEED’s workforce efforts. But we believe that the challenges and opportunities we face in growing Minnesota’s workforce require more executive attention from the commissioner’s office, which is why we want to bring two assistant commissioners in to lead these key work streams.

Though each Assistant Commissioner will look after a unique set of programs, they will share a common purpose: to help Minnesota workers achieve their fullest potential for our state’s growing economy. Major challenges these leaders will be expected to engage on include growing our talent market, closing our opportunity gap for people of color and people with disabilities, driving an innovation agenda for the state, building a “One Minnesota” prosperity plan, and developing and advancing DEED’s internal culture as a great place to work and make an impact.

We’re looking for a dynamic leader who wants to be part of something special in the Walz/Flanagan Administration: to make exponential strides in advancing DEED’s mission to make the Minnesota economy a great place for all businesses and workers to grow, thrive, and prosper.
