Industrial Analysis

Following December’s job gains of 5,800 (0.2 percent), January employment climbed 12,100 (0.4 percent) for the month. This is the sixth consecutive growth month, but gains continue to be tepid.

January employment in the Minneapolis-St. Paul MSA declined 1.8 percent (32,305) over the month and increased 2.0 percent (33,893) over the year.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the January CPI-U for all items was unchanged over the month. The index increased 1.6 percent from January 2012, not seasonally adjusted.

The Current Employment Statistics (CES) Program, a monthly survey of 5,900 nonfarm employers, provides monthly data on employment by industry. The data offer a snapshot of the health of the economy.
