On-Site Alternatives

Using a foreign trade zone magnet site can be logical and convenient – but some businesses prefer to set up a subzone or usage-driven site at their existing business location.

If your company is currently located outside of an existing magnet site but within the Alternative Site Framework (ASF) service area of one of the trade zones, a subzone or usage-driven site can be quickly established at your existing location. Decisions on completed applications for new subzones/usage-driven sites within an ASF service area are made within 30 days.

If your business is not within one of the ASF services areas (see descriptions below), contact an FTZ administrator (see our Contact Us page), and we will work with you to set up a subzone under the Traditional Site Framework (TSF).

Greater Metro Area Foreign Trade Zone

The ASF service area for FTZ #119 includes Isanti, Chisago, Sherburne, Wright, Anoka, Washington, Ramsey, Hennepin, McLeod, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Sibley, Le Sueur and Rice Counties within and adjacent to the Minneapolis Customs and Border Protection Port of Entry.

Duluth Seaway Port Authority Foreign Trade Zone

The ASF service area of FTZ #51 includes portions of Itasca, St. Louis and Lake Counties within and adjacent to the Duluth Customs and Border Protection Port of Entry.

International Falls Foreign Trade Zone

The ASF service area of FTZ #259 includes Koochiching County within and adjacent to the International Falls Customs and Border Protection Port of Entry.
