We've provided information and resources for youth service providers. Some of the material reflects best practices that have been developed and implemented by Minnesota Development Areas, reports or documents that you might find of use, or other materials.

These materials are provided as a courtesy with permission for other youth service providers to adapt the materials to their own programs.

Virtual/Online Resources
Local youth service providers rely more heavily on technology to stay connected with youth participants. Text messaging, e-mails and heavy use of social media applications are just some of the ways that counselors remain in contact with youth participants, especially those located in sparsely populated areas. The chart includes information on how local youth service providers have integrated technology into their programs to serve youth.

WDA 7 - South Central Workforce Council/MN Valley Action Council

The Minnesota Valley Action Council is using Cisco WebEx as a tool for staying connected. To prepare for having remote group meetings with youth, research was completed for options for private and user-friendly tools to use. Cisco’s WebEx free application is available on a on a wide variety of platforms and operating systems. We also found it to be the most secure, free, and least limited option for timing, number of people in a group, and best for various media sharing tools. Several limitations on other sites include: ability to invite/see more than 4 people at once, no time limits for meeting length, ability to mute (yet see) all participants, have a chat window where either the presenter or all can see the chat, can be used for calling in or video conference call, can be recorded for later listening/viewing if needed, and little to no interruptions/pausing - just to name a few.
