At a time when our state’s workforce shortage is presenting employers with new challenges, it is also providing new opportunities. More and more employers are hiring Minnesotans who have a disability – and also possess the skills their business needs to thrive.

This week I wrote a commentary for the Star Tribune about Why hiring people with disabilities will improve your bottom line, and highlighted some approaches Minnesota employers are leveraging to successfully welcome people with disabilities to their workplace. Please consider passing it along to anyone you think might benefit from learning more about this opportunity.

Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan care deeply about building a Minnesota where there is opportunity for everyone, which is why they declared October “Employers Hiring People with Disabilities Month“ in the state of Minnesota. Earlier this month, DEED hosted a roundtable to congratulate Minnesota employers who are leading the way in hiring people with disabilities and to hear from businesses on the benefits they have experienced working with this unique workforce. We highlighted DEED resources to help employers find and hire Minnesotans with disabilities during this tight labor market.

You can take a deeper dive on advice from Minnesota employers recognized for successfully welcoming people with disabilities on CareerForceMN.com.
