Deputy Commissioner Hamse Warfa

I am pleased to announce that Marc Majors has been named Director of DEED’s Employment and Training (ETP) division for the State of Minnesota.

Marc served as the interim director of ETP over the past several months while we searched for a new Director. He’s an experienced problem solver, who brings not only passion, but strong management experience and a vision to advance the future of our employment training programs at DEED.

With Marc’s assistance, we have already made important advancements to our grantmaking and performance management systems, including making the process more timely and transparent. We have more work to do in this area, and I’m confident that Marc is the right leader to carry it forward. He is also committed to continuing to work together with staff, key partners, stakeholders and community leaders to build a center of excellence in grantmaking, management, and monitoring.

Marc has a strong background in workforce development leadership. For more than a decade, he served as the workforce development manager for San Francisco, CA, where he oversaw Workforce Investment Act and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act efforts for the city and managed a $13 million annual budget. He was also a manager for New York City Health and Hospitals Workforce Planning and Development where he helped develop training strategies for 35,000 employees, oversaw implementation of grants, tracked performance, and reported outcomes to government agencies and stakeholders.

It’s essential we have a strong ETP leader with a clear vision at this time of record labor shortage to help remove barriers to employment and ensure Minnesota businesses find employees with the skills they need to grow and thrive. I’m confident that Marc is that leader.
